Ingredients
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 (Q10 for short) is a naturally produced body enzyme and one of the most fundamental antioxidants. It is a type of fat-soluble quinone compound. It is found in every cell of the human body. CoQ10 is vital for energy production in cells.
When we are younger, we can produce enough CoQ10 for the energy we need, but as we age, aging and stress slow down the process of creating CoQ10, and our stores decrease.
Benefits of Q10 for Skin
Revitalizes cell activity: CoQ10 plays a critical role in ATP production, an energy source for cellular processes. As we age, our cells slow down and produce less energy. This is especially true for rapidly dividing cells like those in the skin. Active skin cells easily get rid of toxins and can utilize nutrients better. When your skin ages, all these processes slow down, resulting in dull, pale, wrinkled skin.
Reduces sun damage: Skin is damaged when exposed to the sun's UV rays, which are a source of free radicals that can damage the DNA of cells. CoQ10's powerful antioxidant function helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun and free radical damage at a molecular level.
Evens skin tone: CoQ10 works to block the tyrosinase enzyme, which helps in melanin production, meaning CoQ10 can help reduce and prevent dark spots.
Stimulates collagen and elastin production: CoQ10 supports the body's ability to produce collagen and elastin.
Renews skin cells: More energetic skin cells mean healthier skin cells. Adding CoQ10 to your skincare can help your cells better utilize other nutrients, leading to generally healthier skin. Helps reduce free radical damage: Since CoQ10 aids cell activity, it means your cells can be more efficient at clearing toxins like free radicals and repairing the damage they cause.
Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines: This ingredient helps your body produce collagen and elastin, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Arbutus Unedo (Strawberry Tree) Leaf Water
Derived from the leaves of the Strawberry Tree. It is known for its soothing and antioxidant properties that help calm the skin and protect against environmental damage.
Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid)
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally found in our skin and connective tissue throughout our body. It is a naturally occurring polysaccharide in the human body and acts as a moisturizing agent for our joints, nerves, hair, skin, and eyes.
Hyaluronic acid can draw moisture from the air and keep your skin hydrated, retaining almost 1000 times its weight in water. So it's not just a moisturizer, but it also has extra moisture-retention properties.
It helps replenish and retain cellular moisture, leading to hydrated, plump skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Since dehydrated skin is one of the main causes of wrinkles, hyaluronic acid restores lost moisture and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines.
Panthenol
Panthenol is a provitamin for Vitamin B5 (a precursor or substance that the body can convert into a specific vitamin). When panthenol is applied topically, it is rapidly converted to vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid. B5 effectively binds to water and retains it.
It helps moisturize the skin, maintaining its softness and elasticity. Unlike other common humectant ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol acts as both a humectant and an emollient. Humectants draw water to the skin and bind it, while emollients seal cracks in the skin, keeping water in.
In addition to retaining moisture in the skin for a long time, it also helps stimulate cells that strengthen the skin barrier function. The same cells that strengthen the skin barrier function are also important for wound healing, which is why panthenol is often used to accelerate wound healing.
Geranium Oil & Water/Hydrolate (Pelargonium Graveolens)
Used by ancient Egyptians to achieve beautiful and radiant skin, the geranium plant is used for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. With its pleasant scent, it can also uplift your mood. Geranic acid, found in high concentrations in geranium oil, helps regulate the skin's melanin secretion, preventing the formation of spots and reducing existing ones.
Zinc Oxide
Zinc is a mineral with anti-inflammatory and skin-healing properties. It can be used both internally through diet and supplements and externally to benefit your skin.
The anti-inflammatory effects of zinc have been proven by research. This makes it ideal for skincare products that combat acne, inflammatory skin conditions, and even dry skin caused by eczema.
It not only protects your skin from damage but also helps repair the skin and supports the wound healing process.
While chemical sunscreens are absorbed by the skin, mineral or physical sun protection, like zinc oxide, works by sitting on the skin's surface and deflecting UV rays away from the skin. This action can also be described as reflecting UV rays away from the skin like a mirror. When applied to the skin's surface, it has less potential for irritation, making mineral sunscreens the first choice for sensitive skin. Zinc oxide's sun protection is extremely powerful. It is a broad-spectrum sunscreen with broad UVA coverage and also UVB coverage.
Licorice Root Extract (Glycyrrhiza Glabra Extract)
The root of the licorice plant has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. It is also the source of licorice root extract, used for skin beauty. This extract is packed with various beneficial compounds that provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects while also helping to fade dark spots.
Lightens Skin Spots: Minimizes tyrosinase production to combat discoloration. Melanin (aka pigment or color) production is a complex process, but at its core is an enzyme known as tyrosinase. Licorice root inhibits tyrosinase production, preventing the formation of dark spots. It also brightens the skin in another way; it contains an active compound called liquiritin, which helps disperse and remove existing melanin in the skin. In other words, licorice root not only prevents new spots from forming but can also lighten existing ones.
Reduces Irritation: Contains licochalcone A, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. Licochalcone A can activate anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and detoxifying enzymes. These enzymes protect skin cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. Licochalcone A also soothes irritated skin and redness.
Myrtle Water (Myrtus Communis Water)
Myrtle is a shrub native to the Mediterranean region. It is antioxidant by nature due to the active compounds it contains, such as anthocyanins and flavonoids. It protects the skin not only from harmful oxidation processes but also from free radicals.
Myrtle naturally contains ellagic acid, a polyphenol. Ellagic acid helps improve skin quality. Studies show that it increases the production of collagen fibers. It also binds to elastin fibers, forming a protective layer that keeps them healthy for longer.
Unrefined Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is a naturally delicious-smelling, amazing moisturizer. It is rich in fatty acids and deeply moisturizes the skin, and is also rich in antioxidants that help fight damage caused by free radicals. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help repair skin damage, reduce trans-epidermal water loss, and increase collagen production.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble micronutrient essential for overall body health. It is an antioxidant; it helps protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals. In addition to its nutritional benefits, Vitamin E is also essential for maintaining healthy-looking skin.
It helps lock moisture into the skin and reduce dryness. It protects the skin from cell damage and softens the skin. It is especially beneficial for extremely dry and rough areas of the skin.
